To overcome an obstacle to increased export of Japanese green tea – namely a lack of information on complex import regulations overseas – we developed a data base of Japan’s main tea export destinations and these countries’ agrochemical regulations, plant quarantine requirements, labeling regulations, HACCP certification requirements, organic standards and other information essential to tea exporters. We held a workshop with tea producers, industry members, and tea exporters on the use of this database and encourage the industry to take advantage of this information when planning export strategy.
