Promar Consulting will be holding an open seminar on March 18, 2011 in Tokyo to discuss the findings and conclusions of Promar’s recent projects in East Africa,  conducted at the request of the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to support MAFF’s interest in supporting effective foreign aid and investment for agricultural development in Africa. This study looked at two important crops – coffee and cassava – in several East African countries and assessed the potential and challenges these industries face in increasing incomes, alleviating poverty and increasing food security.

Cassava in Mozambique and Tanzania: Effective Support for Production

International research on cassava has been considerably behind that of other major crops and Japan, in particular, has scarce information resources related to cassava. Promar partner Norinchukin Research Institute will present their findings on current cassava production, processing and consumption in Mozambique and Tanzania as well as the potential to support further cassava production in the two countries as a means to increase food security.  A representative from JICA’s Africa Department will provide further comments and insight.

Coffee in Ethiopia and Tanzania: Supporting Aid for Trade and Increasing Access to Japan Market
